Anybody Know this Golf (Ex Forum car)

Morning Guys,

My mate  (who is not internet savvy) bought a 1982 (i think) Mk1 Golf last night, and since it has the vwgolfmk.org.uk stickers in the window, I'm hoping someone on here may be able to give us some info about it (or track down the owner's username)

The guy we bought it off is also a member here but he only had the car for 3 months and only has 3 posts.

My mate who bought the car couldn't get insurance in time last night, so I drove the Golf home for him (being insured on any car)

I had a few brown trouser moments, such as me having driven the car for 2 minutes and it being rush hour 5PM, still getting used to the very heavy clutch (compared to my 2004 e46 bmw ) and no power steering, then trying to follow my mate in his van while doing numerous hillstarts with no handbrake and other cars right up my arse. Not to mention the car nearly cutting out every time it was sat at idle! (im pretty sure everyone thought i was just trying to race them as i had to keep revving it at every set of lights!)

Needless to say, it needs a LOT of work, but he bought it as a Project car, so im pretty excited about seeing it come together!

The bodywork looks fine, all except the Bootlid, it has pretty much rusted through, so that's first on the adjenda! Next is the Gearbox, i think the linkage definitely needs some work as its a nightmare trying to get in in gear, although he's planning a whole new engine and box so that's not a major issue at the moment.

Anyway, hopefully I will be able to track down some pictures and info about the car from here. The seller didn't know much about it, since he apparently bought it as it is now, so if anyone can name any mods it has, that would be a help too

I will soon start a project thread here after we start ripping it apart this weekend!

Thanks although It's not actually my car, but I will be helping out on the Project.

The Things that we will be doing straight away are:

Source another (hopefully Mars Red) Bootlid

Repair gear linkage problem

Repair/Replace Speedo/Clocks, which I believe are from a vw scirocco? (oil light flashing, MPG randomly lighting up?, buzzing dash)

Repair/replace Stereo & speakers totally

Repair/replace the 3 Gauges under the dash, as I'm not sure any of them work at the moment?

And after that:

Lots of Chrome

Corrado Engine Conversion


If anyone knows where we can source a Mars Red bootlid, or has any useful info on any of the above, please let me know

Looks a nice car, what did he pay in he end, if your after a bootlid put a wanted advert on the forum im sure someone will have one or ebay

Those wheels are lovely - don't change them….

The yellow MPG light comes on when you are supposed to change gear
