Living in Sweden for a while now and sold my old volvo's and thought I'd give an 1979 VW Golf GLs a go .. well it was running real bad and the kid had lowered it .. scared the hell out of me driving it home.. felt like being kicked in the head the whole drive home .. but aside from a little rust on the right door it is in remarkable shape .. think it comes from north Sweden.. they do not salt the roads up there…. best part it has reached tax exempt status..and only needs to be inspected every other year.. 1.5 years til the next one..

strange that there is not much info on this car on the net ..well not that I have found.. this forum was the only real info I could find..
called a couple of friends Friday and found a couple of complete cars that I can buy parts from .. will need new front studs asap ..

noticed the kid had not taken the advert down.. oh! and I only paid half the price.. the sound system cost much more that I got with it.. ;-)

thanks for the help with the pics and region thing ..

yep.. got plans.. going to drive her to a friends junk yard in the morning, he's got a couple of whole cars that I can part shop from..  first off is the front studs and see if he can check my timing.. noticed the kid had moved it.. got no real tools here now.. got my whole garage emptied while I was in hospital last year..bummer .. Swedish cops didn't even bother coming out ?? just told me to make a list and send it in ..
after changing the plugs and points I have her almost running right, tried to adjust the timing by ear..hehe .. there must be a mile of vacuum hose in there ?? wonder if I can remove all that junk :-) .. first time I've seen two vacuum hoses connected to the distributor ..

Thanks for making me feel welcome guys.. its always a + … got her running pretty well, timed and carb adjusted.. changed the front studs and now she's gazing at the stars.. hehehe .. still need to change the back shocks, which will have to wait a bit.. my friend said I should be able to remove all that hose from the engine.. it was mainly used to lower the emissions for Swedish standards .. + he said something about the carb's gasket ..thought it might have been fixed ?? so now thats the next project.. prolly have to buy it from VW
