1979 golf gti mk1 (small rear light model) family owned

Evening all!!

New to the site and glad to see there is a members club for the mk1!!

I have a mk1 1979 (june) golf gti with 76000 miles on the clock

Totally original, and was owned from new by my father as his company car, he was the motoring editor of a national newspaper.

Mars red 4 speed

where can i find some information about the mk1 gti please?

Hello and welcome to the site :D . Sounds like you've got a bit of a minter there, be great to see some pics. There is some general info about mk1's on the index page , right hand side under History - not all links active yet.

There is also tons of info on VWone's page . He has series 1 & 2 GTI's and there is lots of pics, history, ads, tests  and features e.t.c archived on his site.

Excellent another series 1 :cheer: welcome to the site, you have a very rare car their and its great to know its history. There are only a handfull of these left now so take care of it :D

often use to tell me about a series one Gti that he had but i never got to see it

sorry about your Dad i was aware but did'nt want to say in case i had the wrong person, i used to love the story's your dad used to tell me about his mortoring trips to nevade shows etc… i think i was about 16 years old then, he often metioned the golf and always said that he would pass it on to his son, that's why i never asked to buy it.

real nice man, would love to see the car and maybe meet up for a drink
talk about old times
