New to the site and glad to see there is a members club for the mk1!!
I have a mk1 1979 (june) golf gti with 76000 miles on the clock
Totally original, and was owned from new by my father as his company car, he was the motoring editor of a national newspaper.

There is also tons of info on VWone's page . He has series 1 & 2 GTI's and there is lots of pics, history, ads, tests and features e.t.c archived on his site.
There are more links on the links page .
Happy browsing

sorry about your Dad i was aware but did'nt want to say in case i had the wrong person, i used to love the story's your dad used to tell me about his mortoring trips to nevade shows etc… i think i was about 16 years old then, he often metioned the golf and always said that he would pass it on to his son, that's why i never asked to buy it.
real nice man, would love to see the car and maybe meet up for a drink
talk about old times
Regards Gurv
