**ATTENTION*** newbie needing help!!!

ok guys i have just joined and i am needing help…

really really fancy a mk1 golf GTI but i am clueless i shall be reading up on them- but any help/pointers you guys can throw my way then please do so.

i am 22 and have a good car knowledge but am new to the vw scene never mind mk1 golf…

the reasson i am choosing a mk1 golf as i am an old skool mini man… have been for a while but i have fallen out with them and really fancy a new project  8)

looking for a 'tin top' as they seem to be refered as- dont fancy convertable.

standard GTI if possible. external mods acceptable…

so what am i looking for? years of production? models? engine sizes? and what to look out for when viewing?
