1983 GTI Paint Colour - Help Needed

Hi all,

I have recently ventured (finally) into purchasing my first Mk1 GTI Cabrio.  It's a 1983 A Reg, which I am currently refurbishing back to its factory standard.

It's colour is noted on the chassis is LA7Y (I think is a Pewter Grey Metallic), however I cent seem to verify the colour from any pictures or other cars?  Can anyone help or clarify if the current colour is a pewter grey?  It seems to be quite rare.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Looking at the brochure colours for that year. The only grey that I can see listed was 'Cosmos' which came with a blue interior and a black hood in 1983

Looking in DVLA, it shows first registered 25/05/84 so maybe a build a little earlier that year? 

The 1984 brochure shows a 'Pewter Grey' so you're right there. Unfortunately the brochures don't list pint codes (like LA3Y) just a code of 'U9'.

You're right yeah sorry, it's an '84.

I found this on the following website which confirms the paint code is Pewter Grey
