That'll be mine then! not been washed since Gaydon i think!   Looks nice and shiny in the rain tho  .

In Deffence to the MK1OC stand that was the number of members attending UDs!!  less 3/4 inside on show.
As for the MK1 carpark, the kids directing you in didnt really have a clue so were just advised to "Parkup".

It will be washed for All Types.  PROMISE

Why are there always complaints about where our stand is positioned?
I tried to get the interest level going LAST YEAR but without much interest. This situation will occur again and again until owners realise that they have to put their cars where their mouths are and COMMIT to being there.

Its not enough to say 'maybe' because maybes don't secure us an inside position. Its not fair on the owners to lay on a stand for our club inside and us only turn up with 3/4 cars.

Out of the whole show, outside we had 4 and inside me and Hux so effectively we could have had a stand and raised our profile.

All Types is due on the list, Paul c is in charge of that one and the same request will go out again….

Well said Dano. I would only add that we must have some back ups as people do drop out for whatever reason before we commit to the stand.

Doug, you should have cleaned you car mate. It doesn't look good on the Club to turn up with it that dirty. It only takes an hour for a quick wash.

Some nice standard Mk1s there, some show cars were a bit of a let down and there needs to be a bit more to do. Good variety of cars although need some air cooled to be called "Ultimate Dubs"   . On the expensive side compared to other shows but I guess the facilities were expensive to hire.

It was the second year for the organisers and I for one think that it was well run, clean and well presented with space between each car to allow for people to walk round them.

I agree with Rajan, it was a long day once you'd looked round the cars and were waiting for the presentations but I enjoyed it, caught up with friends and had a natter.

It seems that each show is catering more for the modified scene with less and less emphasis on the standard models. It makes me think that I'll have to get some fancy lenses, big bumpers, leather, flip paint, air ride, big ICE instal… no, no stop me there!!!!

I didn't register interest for this one Dan because I knew I couldn't make it. That said I'm mad keen to get my two Mk1's out of cobwebs and round to as many shows as I can this year, within 100 mile radius of Swindon at most - Will happily support you next year on this one though.

Am up for Castle Combe and will be going to Bristol Volksfest in June, Gaydon in August, plus am booked in to two independent shows already - want to do Malvern but as yet haven't found out if it's running - any ideas?

Cheers,
Dave

It really was the parking attendants that cocked up the mk1 parking area, when I arrived at 8.30, and asked for mk1 area, I was roughly guided towards the area we were parked in, but as you got closer to it the other attendants didn't seem to know where it was :( .  I noticed when you came out the doors for the hall there was a sign leaning in the hedge pointing towards the mk1 area, in my opinion, that sign would have been better put in the first car park to direct the mk1's our way.

Good to meet you Dan, Doug, and Scouse, how did you get on in the competition Dan?

A good question would be, of the members who came to Ultimate Dubs yesterday, how many came in their mk1's? probably not many,  I know last year and the year before, I went to numerous shows but not in the Golf because it would'nt have got me there :banghead:

Firstly, I wasn't there so I can only really comment on what dissuaded me from coming and make other vague comments.

There's loads of shows each year - I counted them up last night, and there's around 14 National ones, between February and November. In the spring/summer, there's often shows on consecutive weekends, etc. So, the numbers of shows dilutes the attendance at them (since not everyone can go to every show, they pick and choose). Ultimate Dubs is a new show (2nd year) and thus doesn't have the long standing of, say, GTI International or Tatton Park.

Another thing is its fairly early on in the season, many people (like me) didn't 'finish' their car in time for this show; and the weather could have an effect on attendance.

I prefer 2 (or more) day shows, staying on site overnight (this means you can drink/socialise the evening before, and not have to get up ridiculously early to travel to it) and I also prefer outdoor events where camping is included. For me, this is a 'classic' show format.

Also, I favour 'action' stuff, such as a sprint track. Static shows are alright if you're into looking at pretty cars, but I prefer to see and hear them running!

I think the nail in the coffin for Ultimate Dubs, was that you needed to arrive at 8:30am or whatever, after having travelled, to get into a Mk1 only car park! Only realistic for me (and many others) by staying overnight in a hotel (= expensive, = not really in the spirit of old VWs) I would hazard a guess that there were many more than 6 Mk1s at the show, but all at different times and many in the general car park area. Obviously if there's a group of them together, this is a draw. But separately, not really.

The other factor is, that the Mk1 OC is still building up its support base and there's many other clubs around (eg regional ones) competing for your attention. For example, at Edition 38, there were as many Mk1s owned by people on this forum in the show area and in the camping area, as there was on the club stand (7 cars).

i would have volunteered my car but A it wouldn't have made it and B i didn't know at the time if i would have it back by then.

oh and C it is not ready for the stand yet!  give it another year or so :D

i think with the poor turn out the fact the 'grubby grey cabby' wasn't washed is neither here nor there. besides it made me like it more cos it was more like mine..washing makes no difference if all your laquers come off and the dirt ingrains itself into the paint like on my car :P

the biggest grumble i had was the lack of parking, if it hadn't been a sunday parking would have been a major problem so would the tail back for the locals.  bit of a rubbish pick on ud's behalf there i think.

People who have to travel far could always ask other members for a bed/floor/garden for the night?  what's the point in being in a club if your too shy to meet up or brave the possible axe murderers?   lmao 8O

BEWARE KY05 UCO, blind and deaf white haired driver of red transit, avoid at all costs, he thinks running cars on to the verge is ok. i'm fine, car's fine, mood and make up not so good.

I'm not a member of Mk1 OC but could I comment please??

I think a bit of the emphasis on here for the shows is put on having 'show worthy' cars, to me as a Club GTI co-host and ex-commitee member i'm not bothered if your cars a bucket on wheels!! If your into dubs it does'nt matter!!
I'd of prefered to see 20 Mk1 in various states than 3 tidy ones!! :)
I also know Dean was disheartened by the lack of attendees on the 'Mk1 car park' and won't be repeating it next year!!
I will be attending as many shows as possible this year and it does'nt matter to me if I have to get up at 5:30 AM and travel 3 hrs to a show (I've done this more than once) if your committed to the shows then you'll put in th effort!! :dontknow:
Just my 2ps worth!!

See you at the shows!!

Well first off mine wasn?t there because…………

I made the comment because the stand looked cr4p……… Im not talking about the positioning of the stand, mk1 car park or not the turn out was pathetic and to be honest made the club look like a joke. I?m a member and last time I checked was entitled to make my feelings known regarding issues such as this.

It seems to me that some people might have to drag themselves into the future
1. its an early show in the year so would be mad to camp even if you could, ?54 for a room for four people is not breaking the bank in anyones book.
2.An excuse of having to travel more than 100 miles to attend a show is just plain poor this is one of the closest shows i attend each year and i do alot of them.(600+ round trip for ud's)
3.there are plenty of nice cars on this site that are more than worthy of displaying on a stand inside or out.
4. shows are only as good as you make them, make the effort to speak to people and hey you never know they might not be an axe murderer

and after that small rant, on the plus point this is a good show that is still in its infancy and dean and the guys really do listen to peoples comments to try and make next year even better for me its a good chance to catch up with mates again and look for ward to the rest of the show year.

Hello…..
I no Im not a member (in the process of joining) but I would like to say something…..

We live down in Bournemouth and managed it to make the show ?? whats a 5am start and a 4hr trek up the motorway when you get to see all these beautiful cars ??  I have to say we were incredibly disappointed that there weren't more mk 1 owners club cars that are seen on here at the show….. surely the mk1 owners club should of had the biggest stand (outside and in) at this years show seen as there was particular emphasis on the mk1.
Every mk1 had its place at this yrs show whether it was gleaming and belonged inside or not hence the idea of the car park !!!
Come on guys wheres the spirit ???
susie x

p.s maybe the organisers could take into account the date that the show is held on…. it is really early in the season and it has been an exceptional spring so far, maybe next year a few weeks later perhaps ????

its funny

I stopped showing my mk1 because of negativity in the "scene"

When this site was formed I thought mm a breathe of fresh air, somewhere for us mk1 fans to go

Leave the bitching to the wankers on the other forums eh guys ;)

who cares is a mk1 is on display or not, its keeping then on the road that matters

That may be one way to look at it????
I am not a "fully paid up member" either at the moment, but i attended U.D this year with the VR6 owners club, i made the trip North on the 400 mile round trip from Kent and got up at 6 am to do it! spent 3 days polishing and fettling my VR6, and around 30 cars from the VR6OC turned up (some from as far as Aberdeen!) and they displayed inside and out, (some where in the public car park due to space issues!)
I must say i was dissapointed at the Mk1 "car park" also, my first thought was that the organisers had mucked it up? as i saw loads of decent mk1`s on route and queing at the gates, why werent all the mk1`s let into the "special parking" i thought that was the idea? or did they have to be "members?"
I dont think proper representation of this club or the mk1 was really made on the day, appart from the show cars inside the halls and "the few" outside, no banners and no other support, thats got to be down to people making the effort themselves to attend and not always leaving it to someone else to turn up to boost the numbers, fair enough its an early show in the season but every show is what you make it, they wont get any better if no one puts the effort in to attend! and judging by sheer numbers i doubt the Telford venue will be big enough for next year!
