track day + show n shine

Right where do i start , ive been damn busy basically .
I took a day off work today to sort out some thing weve been chattin about for a while . A track day event for the mk1 golf owners club .

Ive been upto brands hatch and spoken with the guys an gals who organise events . And heres the crack .

Mid to late november at either Brands Hatch or Snetterton a sunday track day with a show and shine for mk1 golf`s and other vag cars .
The track day will be for mk1 golfs only , depending on u guys to come along and support the club . If we cant quite get enough people we may have to open the meet to other vw`s to make up the numbers , but i think this could be fun any way . thers nothing better than going past a new golf gti in a 20 yr old cabriolet !!!!

Please leave feedback on venue preference - Me and Drew both live in kent near brands hatch and will be able to moniter the event constanly up to the day of it happening - i will also find it easier to organise because i have more contacts down here , but please tell us what u think as valid club followers .

For long distance drivers both venues have overnight accomodation and bar facilitys if you want to arrive on the saturday night - i will need to sort a deal out with the hotel at a nearer time .

Sunday will be track day .

as a ball park figure it will be ?130 for all day on the track - there are cheaper options out there but this is not an airfeild with cones round it - this is a premier race track . This will cover public liability insurance , marshalls , instrucor plus advise , moring breifing and paramedics.

90% of people dont get track day insurance on ther vehicles - if u bend it u mend it !!! its up to you !!!

We MUST have between 70-80 pre paid bookins for this to happen .

There will be two groups… cruisers and racers , the pits will have an open pit lane which means people can run as many times as they like all day !
The only acception is cruisers will have to move over for racers.

Depending on the budget there may well be an all inclusive sit down lunch for track dayers .

Dub parade - at lunch time all track dayers and show and shiners will be allowed 1 slow lap of the track , when a professional photographer will take photos of u leaving the start line - a burn out may be required !
these photos can be printed and purchaes or purchased on cd format .

Show n shine - although the event will be aimed around making money for our club ,and attention to the mk1 golf ,  to attract a show crowd or attention there will be a vag show and shine aswell with differnt catergoris .

Mobile rolling road - run and see what youve got or it could turn into a shoot out match with differnt classes , fun for sure !

Sunday entry - if your comming to spectate or take part in the show n shine we are hoping entry will be around ?10 , we need to sit down and do some figures first !

Well thats it i think , all we need now is people`s opinions and input , as yet this is all on paper so lets do something about that - with 2 + months to go im hoping this will give us enough timw to get organised and people to sort finances etc - this will get heavily advertised hopefully , some of the guys at brands have connection with pvw and i need to contact jim from golf plus to pull a few strings .

Lets face it people it would be a damn good end to the year and we aint got much else to look forward to other than colder nights and shorter days . And ps - if it rains, thunders , snows or blows a gail , if the tracks booked its ours for the weekend , we can still run !!

Peace G-DUB

you should do a poll of either brands or snetterton, I would prefer snetterton for the obvious reason that its just down the road - just why you want brands
I hope that it will go ahead but have to be honest and say if only 50 odd cars will turn out to a national show for the club ( in the rain ) how many are going to come out in the winter weather to thrash their beloved mk1 :dontknow:
BTW that is a yes from me

Although i havent finished my mk1 yet i vote snetterton as i could come and watch , meet some peeps and finally see some top notch mk1s in the flesh  :cheer:

so i should vote castle coombe, easy for the midlanders, souwesters, southerners,

we cant not have an event like this because its not close enough for ya, itll never be perfect for everyone

can we get a poll on here maybe, including castle!!!!!

a track day gives peeps chance to really show there cars off, either raggin it if thats what you like and show n shine for those more respectful to theyre golfs.

The idea isnt nesseceraly to thrash your mk1 , hence the two groups, just a good day ouy to round off the year . Hopefully if the line up includes all the mentioned attractions then we`ll have a really big turn up  . this , im hoping will get advertised eventually - there arnt alot of shows out there wher u can run on a track , show n shine and a mobile roling road .

please keep the positive feedback comming .

I'd definitly be up for coming along to a show and shine at brands hatch, the track day would be tempting but i don't think the mk1 would ever forgive me!!

I'm now mk1less, ahhhhhhh!

 It would thank you for the privalege . The idea of cruisers is really to have a blag round , from the people who ive chatted to so far 90% of us will be novices any way , it would be good to have you on board thou , the more mk1`s the better .

Any profit from the meet will go to the club and be held for future events next year , or to the obsolete parts programe .

When we used to go to Brands with the BMW`s ( i used to have a 325i ) it was ?250 each for a day with open pits and marshalls so this will be great value for money .  8)

this is a great idea, I'm well interested.
I saw the ITCC at brands earlier this year and awed all day to my brother about getting the golfs on the track:drool:  I would love to drive my golf round there:notworthy:
sounds good price wise too,
I think this needs a poll…
come on people, we need more numbers.

ok people im drunk ritw now but it sounds like other groups have tried to do this , the coffee -= maN sent me a link earlier about a groupo doing a track day in the bedford auto drome - this place has no armco so no spectators are allowed .

Would we be ok with pairing up with another vag group to sort this one out ??

I would love this to happen for our wee club because the only way were gonna get biger and better is by making the effort and attracting other poeple in to= our club , i personally love the way this club is run and the people who post on here -

maybe some one reading this has an influence on the caddy forum ??

Ans4r and lakes8 u r both daddy`s for ur  up for it `ness and its people like u who we need on board , there are many a folk out there who WILL sign up but wont be aware yet please spread the word and buy all means HOUND Drew and Mods about this ( Drews as up for this as i am ) we just need to make it a reality rather than an idea

Peace out for now sorry about bein drunk , lets have somemore people on board and supporting our club

I did a track day at bedford auto drome, the day was awesome but did cost nearly a grand per person - It wasn't driving your own car though

This all sounds a good idea. Although i'd definatly be a cruiser rather than a racer. I think a final decision on a venue is the first thing before people will say yes or know. Personnally i'm not too fussy as i'm based in the mids there will always be people who have to travel further than me! As everyone is favouring local tracks tho, Donnington, Rockingham or maybe silverstone.8)

The poll would have to be between snetterton and brands hatch really - there are other tracks out there , like i say though me and the events team at brands have looked at most other options apart from donnington . Donnington isnt one of there tracks .

Shall i poll these two tracks ??
