Reminder: National Resto show this weekend (Sun 31st Oct)

Just thought I'd stick a quick reminder on here in case anyone was at a loose end on Sunday  :D .

Looks to be a good show with lots of hands on demo's and tool manufacturers, autojumbles, trade stands etc.

Tickets are relatively cheap - only ?7.50 on the day. More info here:

http://www.classiccarshows.org.uk/restor.html

So far it looks like myself, Rich (crazyquiff) and Wellsy are going. The plan is to meet at Cherwell Valley services on the M40 at about 9.30am on the Sunday morning. I'll be travelling up from SE London, so if anyone fancies a lift / tagging along let me know.

If you are on the M40 and you see 3 Campaigns in a row (Rich's black, Wellsy's silver and my Lhasa) then give us a wave  :D

Cheers,

Chris

Oops sorry mate - Rich texted me to say you were going in a silver Mk1 when I sent him a message to confirm the arrangements

Look forward to seeing your G60 - sounds like a nice car  :D. Hope to see you on Sunday!

Cool Rajan - be good to meet a few of you guys at last, especially as I missed the Sept meet  :D .

Just finished a 180 mile round trip up to Northampton visting some mates. Whilst the Campaign is running well, the exhaust / manifold blow is definitely getting worse and the car is seems to be running a bit rougher than usual  :? . Hoping it will get me up to Stoneleigh and back tomorrow, but don't be surprised if you get a call from me Rich saying I've had to get a tow home

I am trying to put off doing any engine work until I have finished rebuilding another DX unit over the next 2 months. When I've got the engine out for that swap I want to do the fuel lines and replace most of the exhaust system too.

Here's hoping the ole girl can last until then!! No smoking or oil consumption and the oil is still pretty clean on the dipstick, so probably just needs a service. Might also think about a new dizzy cap and HT leads too - the ones on there at the mo look a bit tired.

Advance warning also - I'm not really pushing her beyond 70 much at the mo on the motorway as I don't want to stress things too much just in case, so I might have to catch up with you guys at the show if I get left behind

Cheers,

Just to say thanks to those that turned up - a good day even if it did take an hour to get parked up and actually into the show (thats a long time when you are dying to take a leak like I was  8O ). Should have followed Wellsy's example and disappeared into a nearby field as we crawled along the approach road  .

Good to finally meet a few more people people off the forum (dubboy, Wellsy and friends, plus of course Rich and his dad!)

Not a massive amount of VW Mk1 stuff there, but a useful day out none the less.

Sadly I missed the photo opportunity of Wellsy diving over the fence to answer the call of nature whilst his mate Dave got to grips with driving his LHD Mk2 G60 that he'd never driven before  :D

To be honest there was not much to say about it from  Mk1 point of view as mine and Rich's Campaigns were the only Mk1's there to speak of (that I saw anyway). As with many of the classic / resto shows these days from a car point of view they tend to cater more for "older" classics from the 60's and earlier.

STill for me it was interesting as I was wanting to find out about panel beating etc and there were one of two good demos on this kind of thing.

Some interesting cars for sale too - a very tidy black Porker 944S for less than 1500 quid  :D  I was tempted, but then reality kicked in

Ooooooo you cheeky b*gger

I am now aware I have a rep as someone prone to the occasional long post or two….. I can only blame it on my current "unemployed" status and the unusual amount of free time I seem to have on my hands……. that and the fact that I only seem to have my "virtual" friends like you guys on the forum  8)

I think I need to get out more……… get some gainful employment…… or something like that!

Was catering for mostly British pre-70 cars, but highlights for me were the roll over frame for working underneath the car, Mini demos (if only I had the space), green K70 and seeing Chris's Campaign.

Parking was a shambles.

Picked up a few period bits for the new project and a replacement chromie fuel filter for DUB HIT.

Think of what we can get at a German swap meet

Cheers

I missed the green K70 - damn!!!!  :D

Parking was an unecessarily long and drawn out process, and not one I'd care to repeat in a hurry!!

Was good to get some feedback on my car and advice on returning it to stock from Wellsy and Rajan - thanks guys! Looks like Wellsy's mate dave will take my current Billie setup off my hands when the time comes to change back to the original setup. Quite amusing seeing Wellsy push down the front wing on my Campaign to check out how stiff the suspension was……. only to find it hardly moved!!!! Rock 'ard    Can't wait to get it returned to stock with maybe just a lower front suspension brace to tighten things up without spoiling the originality.

Those chassis tilters are indeed the dogs danglies….. the cheapest versions are only a few hundred quid too…

Rajan, Rich and me were thinking about taking a van over to one of the big VW swap meets in germany pretty soon….. anyone got any hard to find bits they would be interested in us looking for? Personally I think we should load up on mint LHD striped pasenger seats while we are over there - easily possible to use then for repairing our rather tired drivers seats on the Uk cars!

Rajan - any idea what the meet calender is looking like up to xmas - sadly my German is non - existant, but I'm happy to come along for the ride  :D

Regarding a trip to a German swap meet, we need to gauge interest first. I was also thinking of meeting up with the German equivalent of our Mk1 meet at their annual bash. They have a swap meet and last year went to Wolfsburg museum too. I have been to the museum many years ago, but would like to go back as they have some new cars now. I would also recommend the factory tour. This meet is normally in July time so we need to check if ideally we can combine the lot into a German Mk1/beer fest type trip.

I'd be up for a trip to Germany. I suppose if its a Golf Mk1 meet then I'd be limited in the amount of stuff I could carry. It would be fun trying out some derestricted Autobahns too, since I never exceed 70mph here.

I like the sound of this too - even if I'm just a passenger   . If anyone is looking for someone to share the petrol and do a stint behind the wheel to break thinks up then I'm your man!

Cheers,
