Diary Dates 2011 Google Map

Thought some of you might be interested to know I've just created a Google events map for 2011.

I'm quite active on the Scirocco Register site and initially it was based around the VW events listed in their Diary Dates section, but I'm now expanding it somewhat with quite a few extras thrown in for good measure. Just click the link below and it'll take you straight to the actual map.

Being new to the VW scene and with a terrible grasp of basic geography I originally put this together to give me an idea of what shows were on where and when etc. However, I thought I'd flag it up here and provide a link in case anyone else might find it useful. If you've been around for a while and always go to the same shows then you'll be unlikely to use it, but if like me you're a newbie (or just looking for a change of scene) then it might well be worth checking it out.

All the events are listed in chronological order and then shown individually on the map. If you click on any of the events then a pop up window will appear, which gives a little bit of information about the show along with contact numbers where available. In addition, you can use the links to open up the organisers own website.

And perhaps best of all, if you don't have a Sat Nav, you can also select any of the shows and get directions to it from your home address.

In an attempt to keep it current and accurate I'll obviously be updating it with new shows etc as and when they come to light, but for the moment this is the best it can be. Having said that, it is only intended as a guide and you should ensure the events listed are as described before attending.

I really hope at least some of you out there find this useful, but if you think I've missed anything or it can be improved in some way then please let me know.

Edit January 26th:

Just spotted that there appears to be a glitch with the above link to Google Maps today. When I click onto it I get taken to Google Maps okay, but it's a blank map that's being displayed as opposed to the Diary Dates which normally shows up.

Having checked online it appears that the problem lies with Google Maps itself and not the map I've created as many other users have reported similar problems with their maps over recent days.

Hopefully, Google will sort it out soon. In the meantime, if this does happen to you then click the back button on your browser bar as if you wanted to come back to the forum. Crazy, but it works every time I've tried it today!

Good to know it's generating some interest. Now if only Google would pull their finger out and fix the glitch!

Pleased to say guys that Google have sorted the problem with their URL links.  

It's taken a while, but everything is now working as it should.

Having said that they've not offered any explanation as to why their maps weren't working in the first place so I guess there's always a slight chance the problem could recur, but hopefully not.

Don't forget if there are any shows you'd like me to add to the map you can either PM me or just add a comment onto this thread and I'll see what I can do.

How do I make my map marker on Google Maps included my logo in the map display? Go to Google Maps and type in "Bikes San Francisco" The 7 will show Mike's Bikes. Go to the "more results in San Francicso" link and click. On the next page it will show the map with Mike's Bikes having it's logo displayed. How are they doing that?
