Windage Tray

Hi.
im in the middle of doing a 2e tall block conversion.
I got the latest issue of GOLF+ where there is a write up on the same conversion, (3a and 2e)
they talk about fitting a windage tray inside the sump to stop oil starvation on hard cornering. Has anyone done this to their car and know  where to get one from? apparently you can use one from the majority of 4cylinder vw engines, ie the 1.9tdi lump?

tsr do a baffled sump/windage tray for 150notes, but im not paying that!
hoping to get one from a scrappy if somebody knows which engines have them!

 Cheers
John

Ive got a baffled sump on mine its little more than two plates welded front to back with some holes drilled in them , saw the tsr one then had a mate weld them into mine for a few beers . I'm going to have to pull my engine soon to fit my new gearbox (with lsd) when i do i'll take off the sump and get some copies  made up that you could then have welded in to yours . i have a spare sump lying around somewhere i could do them on a exchange basis anyone else want one ? .If you upgrade you suspension or intend to drive your car hard then its probaly a good idea , there is one snag you have to do regular oil changes otherwise the crudd builds up in the sump blocking the holes and starving the engine of oil anyway .

Oh geezer I would be interested for deffo! How much mate?

Have you gone for a quaffe box. If you have I'm jealous! :D

I used to own a mk1 - well I've had 2 actually - YDU 720X & SMU 420Y. Currently I drive an 98 Scotia White Mitsubishi Evolution V RS…. fancy getting another mk1 someday :D

The windage trays are only around ?20 anyway…

the VW windage tray that fits the 16V is:  Windage tray with built in sump gasket. 037 115 220B, (mk3 tdi 'sumpgasket' ?22.50 from GSF)

Net sure if this fits 8Vs

do you fit a windage tray or a baffled sump or can you fit both?

I think you can do one or the other , not sure if you can do both . I do know that 16v have different oil pumps so it maybe that they won't fit an 8v .
