Wide Wheels Question?

I'm busy betting my wheels for my project.
13x8" Quadro-R Wheels

widest tires I could get my hands on "kumho 215x50x13"
Will post picture later.

I am a  little concerned because people in South Africa tend to go for bigger rims like 17" - 19" on golf MK1…

I am trying to do something different. I've had the same setup before on my previous 1.4i Chico Golf but with 13x7" Quadro-R rims & 185x60x13 Yokohama Tires..  They already stood out quite far because of the offset.

Do you guys think you can manage with a 13x8" Rim & with 215x50x13 Rubber?

depends what you mean by manage? the tyres will fit o.k. i assume the offsets are not standard mk1 spec or anywhere near it? handling will probably suffer and for my opinion, it will look brown stuff that plops out of your bottom or sometimes squirts depending on what sort of beer and ruby you had the night before.

I found that the handling was a lot better with my previous move from 175x65x14 to 185x60x13(on the 7x13" rim)

If the new set of rims are 1inch wider with wider tyres?
The offset is -8 on the 13x8, the offset was 0 in the 13x7 that I used on my old Golf.

Im not entirely sure what you ment with your previous comment about the:

" it will look brown stuff that plops out of your bottom or sometimes squirts depending on what sort of beer and ruby you had the night before"?

i would expect the 185/60/13 7x13 to be better than the 175/65/14, depending on the et. et-8 plus 8x13 means that not only is the offset 46mm out from standard spec, which has to affect steering geometry, but the wheel will sit out 71mm wider than standard 14" ones. combine that wwith 215mm tyres and i wouldn't expect car to be very responsive. you are going to have to do arch mods too.
that's my opinion from a technical perspective.

the brown stuff comment, is because i get told off for swearing, so i need to explore other avenues of expression as the man is heavy and doesn't like to see souls free, flying in the breeze of love, with the shackles of oppression unbound.

that's a personal perspective that is of no actual help to anyone but i feel needs to be said anyway. man.

I would like to have them all under the fenders… but how do you do that?

Look at this Red Golf…  How did he do that? :

they are not actually sitting under the arches. any downward movement will scrub the tyres. can be done if the suspension is ultra stiff. this again doesn't help handling. on a flat smooth surface, great. on rough, uneven, pitted, potted etc.. it will be very skittish. no good for the wet either. looks mean but not as effective as you might think. you can get flared arches. berg cups are good but hard to come by i think.
