Which conversion??

Hi unfortunately my Golf cab bit the dust in Nov last year :( I plan to get a tin top golf for a project car now and do it up completely, improve brakes etc etc but what I'm really unsure about is what engine to put in it. I've been thinking a lot about g60. I later found out that this can be further improved by increasing capacity to 2.0L with 16v head but I'm really unsure as I've not done a conversion before. Are there pitfalls with this idea or is there a better alternative?  I first need to find the car but I'm curious to find out as once I know where i'm going I can start acquiring parts

 thanks in advance.

There are loads of different options and each has its benefit.
I've got a mk1 with a G60 motor in it and they are great cars to drive but your limited on the power you can get out of an 8v G60 without spending an absolute fortune.
They cant be bored out to 2.0 easily so most people go to 1.9 and its not quite as simple as just bolting a 16v head on to make make a g60 16v (there are loads of ways of building this engine).
The 20v turbo has come down in price considerably over the last few years and if your looking for good power its definitely the engine to consider.

16v g60
Ain't gunna be cheap by any means as said, I looked into it and that's as far as I got, still a plan I suppose but doubt it.

For reliable power I'd go 16v, or 20vt myself, 16v being the easier if the two.

Thanks for the replies guys, I suppose it's a matter of money at the end of the day as with most things. I'll concentrate on getting the car for the time being and see how the cash is then. Cheers
