which 1.8t engine

hi there
i am new to the forum and own a mk 1 1.5gx golf
i am looking to do the 1.8 20vt conversion however as there are so many variations of the 20vt engine i am confused as to which 1 will be best ot work with

i have read that the AGU enging will work but at the same time i have read that an AEB enging will also work

wondering if any one can clear this up for me??

thanks :D

I think the AGU is popular because it has a big port head which i believe isnt really of any value untill you need to make big power, it also has a throttle body which accepts a cable unlike some others which are drive by wire (?) easily swapped for an agu one, i think its best to get a transverse engine though as the longitudinal ones (including aeb) need sump/manifolds maybe more changing.i am using an AUM.

AGU's are very common and can be picked up cheaply if you hit the right breakers yard. As the last poster said, its best to go for the transverse mounted engines as these need the least modification.

There are a couple of build threads and how to threads on here and Club GTI that are a good read if your serious about the conversion.
