whats best running gear to use for mk1 g40

looking into what is best running gear to use.

how much will 4wd cost me

a small fortune springs to mind  8O but god would that stick to the road!

don't even know if a 4wd Mk1 has been done before  :dontknow:

Seen a mk1 with all subaru running gear a while back and a Mk1 with Mk2 synchro kit.

MK2 Synchros tend to be quite cheap - less than a grand anyhoo

wouldnt the 4motion system from say the passat or r32 golf be less trouble, i know its not true 4wd but its damn close.

You'll need substantially more power in a 4wd to make it better than an equivalent 2wd especially if you're only using it on the road. An Mi16 engined 205 will stay with a WRX scooby on fast B roads. I'd just go with the G40 box and sort out your chassis.

Ben Leach did a 4wd mk1 using sycro parts from a mk2, but needs alot of work fitting the syncro floor as the mk2 is wider.

ben leaches mk1 was mk1 floor plan. custom tank and wheel well. used running gear off a rallye. took him ages to build but one hell of a car. 20vt turbo with sumthing like a 4sec 0-60
