VW flip key

Hi,

Not sure if this is a modification or not really, I tried searching the forum for an answer but couldn't find anything, hope I haven't reposted something that has been asked a million times :?

I was wondering if it is possible to use one of the VW flip keys (from eBay) for my MK1 (when I get one!) ??

Hopefully I can use the key for now and once I get an alarm fitted later down the road I can use the remote to unlock the car.

Does anyone see a problem with this? and would there be a specific one I need as there are so many part numbers.

Thanks for your time

Adrian

i think the only way to do it is to take it apart and put a chopped up mk1 blank in.  The keys are diff shapes.  theres a lad on Dub-marines that did it i think…i'll have a gander

i have seen this done before cutting the key is the hardest part as it has to be almost exact and this will take alot of time and effort
im not 100% on this but i think you need the alarm box from the same car or the remote wont work because of the frequency

volkswagens dont leak they mark their teritory

i did one about a month ago i used the old audi a3 key i got when i bought my engine 5 minute job

theres a pin that holds the key into the fob remove that and the old bit of key comes out tape it to the new key get a fine blade hack saw and cut round it the bobs you uncle pop it back in and you have a flip key you may need to file a few bits down but mine works ok

20vt mk1 AND a flip key! man I envy you! :D

So basically I can use any of the flip keys that can be bought from eBay (by searching 'vw flip key') but, only as a key, I probably wont be able to use the buttons when I get an alarm. Which to be honest doesn't bother me I just want the key :)

I'll leave the cutting of the key to the professionals :) hehe

Thanks everyone for your help

Cool! I was wondering if it would be possible to just simply change the frequency that the alarm runs on to match that of the key fob.

Good luck with the alarm Ben, let us know how it goes :)

lol

the good thing is where i work i do lots of board repairs on machines ect ect so i dont think it will be to hard to take the laserline alarm board and make it fit inside the keyfob

if not then ill modify the frequency or transfer all the components onto the audi board  8O  8O

Ive done this; Very pleased with it however i'd be interested in the alarm mod. Especially as I am looking to take the plunge on a new alarm!

I want one key for everything eventually

rclick do mk4 fob cl/alarm kits, quality not as good as vw though.

on my mk2 i installed the full convenience system from mk4 so i have a workign mk4 fob, but its a bit more involved! you can get mk4 versions with interior monitoring and alarm etc which is what i havem, though i havnt got the interior monitor sensors in yet or the alarm siren working.

my indicators do flash menacingly if you try to break in tho

I'm doing a similar job I'm using a mk4 loom what does the ccm need to work? I.e does it need the mk4 door locks? Mk4 electric windows etc

if you can find a unit from a mk4 with manual windows (3 plugs on it, not 2) then it will control the door lock moduels direct. I managed to get mine going with aftermarket 5 wire actuators :)

the 2 plug ones need the electric window motors/modules to control the door locks, though you may be able to rig it all up to the 2 wires from the boot lock actually, im not sure how upset the ccm would be if it cant see the door motors.

if you wire up the door pin switches to the ccm and the interior light to the ccm output it will also have the neat fade out function for the mk4 interior light, also it will switch on the light when you unlock car and leave it on till car is started etc. very cool

feel free to pm me if you're serious, its a fair amount of work to get it up and runnign and they complex beesties lots of little details to be aware of
