VR6 conversion
I have not found any posts on here for a Mk1 VR6 conversion.
Is this possible or not? any advice would be good.

It's a more popular conversion for the Mk2 Golf than it is for the Mk1. It has been done quite a few times but I believe it involves a hell of a lot of work. I think the front chassis legs need re-engineered to make the engine fit, you need to be able to fit the VR6 subframe and suspension mounts plus fit a hydraulic clutch. Awesome GTI were one of the first companies to do it and you can see the car here, rubbish colour though.. http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/gallery/mk1vr6gallery.html and here's another from an American tuner http://www.eurotuner.com/featuredvehicles/160_0611_et_1977_volkswagen_rabbit/
I would advise calling one of the larger VW tuning specialists to get an idea on the work and costs involved.

Its been done before many times, definitely not as often as the 16V conversion though. Here's a link to the caddy forum, which details one way its done: http://vwcaddyforum.co…d.php?t=1342&page=4&pp=20
In summary, the things you'd have to do over & above a 'regular' engine conversion are:
fabricating and welding on engine mount brackets onto car
fabricating engine mounts that bolt onto the engine
fabricating manifold (or buying one for Mk2 and adapting it)
possibly shortening driveshafts
convert dash & electrics to Mk3/Mk4 or use a custom ECU
