VR6 Conversion

Hi I have a golf Mk1 1800 GTi and also a Golf Mk3 VR6. Having all the components to hand, would this be a straight forward conversion to put the VR6 engine into my MK1? Would I need any modified parts to complete the project?
Thanks

Getting it to fit in the sapce would be the diffcult part. I thought you had to mod the bulkhead and chassis leg to get some clearance for the engine.

Then add to that the weight of the engine, and you'd have a very fornt heavy MK1.

There are better engines for the MK1, like the 16v 2.0ltr and the 1.8T lumps.

There's three people on the Caddy forum who've done VR6 into Caddy (same as Mk1 Golf) swaps. Might be worth looking there and doing a search on 'VR6'

problem is that once you've done it handling goes to pot. You will then have a very front heavy car with loads of power. OK in a straight line but devillish in fast cornering etc etc!
