vr6 conversion or sup up original 1800cc engine

hi guys……i need some advice….i drive a 1991 mk1 cabriolet stock std. (except for the wheels)……i want to spice thing sup a bit under the hood and cannot decide between the following:

1) a 1900 conversion,big valves 288 cam,2.5l pistons and xflow head and throttle bodies….or

2) a vr6 conversion

which conversion is easier on maintenance and also less risky i.e less potential problems after the covnersion has been done?

i'm from SA and i'm not too sure if our engines are the same as the uk ones, but any advice will do nonetheless………

neither of these.  2 ltr 16v is better. [personal opinion] although no idea if this engine is available to you.

I'd agree with abfmk1. Modifying the 8V is only going to achieve small gains, you'll always be limited by the poor breathing at the top end (physical constraint of 8V induction). And VR6 conversion is very involved, and once its in the standard VR6 isn't that powerful (compared to the same amount of money spent improving a 16V). If you wanted to tune a VR6, its very costly - for example, ?1300 for a Schrick manifold, which adds perhaps 20bhp?
