Turbo technics

Know where to find two kits stored (used) but how much for one?
NO1. is complete with rebuilt engine and recon turbo.
NO.2 less engine and turbo  :dontknow:

Friend paid ?750 for a complete 1600 engine and box with a schrick intercooler, special alu rocker cover, larger oil cooler pipe work and turbo, and a larger metering head. All complete basically but not rebuilt.

I can get the engine and kit for ?500 but no bills for work done  so i cant say the engine has been rebuilt, i am just going from what he has said.
How reliable is the kit and how easy to fit? will my gearbox handle the power? :dontknow:

My pennies worth on the TT kits. Personally I would take the complete kit including Turbo for ?500. The Turbo on its own is going to cost at least half the price of the complete engine and kit, so why buy half the kit and then try and source the Turbo unit ? Rebuilding the TT enignes are not complicated. If you need to do this then it really is a case of machining pistons, different head gasket for 1.8 versions, standard head gasket for 1.6 versions.

Realibility. good if they are put together properly, and you set-em up wit the right fuelling, get it wrong and liekeany Turbo car they go bang big stylleee (been there a few times and it  hurts the pocket   ).

Gearbox - the big debate - some will say that you need to change the box as they will not last, but I run a normal 1.8GTI box and so far its never been a problem. (195K and no gearbox/diff, CV probs as yet), so imo a good box wil last, but like most things a dicky diff pin and its all over so its really luck of the draw I think.

Oh, and if you don;t want the part kit, point 'em in my direction as I'm always looking out for spares for mine as they are a "little" hard to come by  :wink:

Just phoned the guy and he will give me both kits cheaper than the ?500, he said the kit with the engine is a mk2 kit with a garett turbo, and the other coplete kit is a kkk turbo which is a recon unit, if i was to buy them and keep the engine mk2 kit for my mk1, how much can i expect for the other kit for sale? :dontknow: would anyone be interested?As it would offset the costs

I'm desparate for a TT exhaust manifold if anyone's got one? :dontknow:

i watched a tt manifold go on ebay last week for ?26. i nearly cried. should have put a bid on  

LMAO!  I got told by a mate it ended at 26 quid! I almost shot him for not buying it or not telling me!

hi could anybody tell me if the turbo technics kits used different rods, crank and inlet manifold ?

also what turbo was used ?

take a look at our website :www.vwturbo.co.uk as there is some detail of the conversion on there, and if you need anyhting else let me know.

In essence, it was standard rods, standard inlet manifold with adaptor unit, and if it was a 1.8GTI machines pistons to lower compression. Some other bits n bobs as well which  I can fill you in on if you need more info.  :wink:

is there anyway you could email me a large picture of your engine bay so i can see how they did the conversion ?

if the manifold i have will do the job then i will be looking at using a megasquirt ecu to control fuel and ignition i may also need to get another turbo as the one i have might just not be big enough.

it'll be done to a 1600Gti too

if there's any dtails of the conversion you could tell me that would be great !
