think u need an engine designed for a turbo, the pistons are normally machined to lower compression, i would think if you put a turbo on a carb engine it wouldn't last long before a big bang!!  8O

1.6 carfb lump is quite low compression, or you could go the old stacked metal gasket rout (g60) plenty abfs out there turboed this way see toyotecs wolf r for an example. main thing though is getting the tuning right. if its not done properly it'll go bang quite fast

Fraught with issues.

Use the G60 ecu and plenum arrangements and forget the carb setup, itll be a pita.
Be aware that if the CR is too high to start with itll limit how much boost you can run before it starts detonating.
good intercooling and heat management can help there.

I was thinking about doing something of the same myself, still got garrett turbo an intercooler sitting under the table all oil'd up in a nice box ;)

found a compression plate that would go in between two head gaskets on eBay for about 60 quid, all I needed to do was hack the turbo into the exhaust(made the templates) and then the turbo inlet into the intercooler then into the carb. While I was talking this through with the fellas here I also found it would only raise the boost to around 9psi or something.

So really it was a loosing battle, but would have been a lovely talking point hehh.

Also the oil supply, I was going to use a MOCAL electric pump, catch tank & oil cooler(demon tweeks)

Got a nice Garrett turbo with no play in it at all and an intercooler here if you wanna buy it.
