i've got tt seats in my car, however.. do NOT buy the recaro seat subframes from recaro, they're overpriced and are too high, i'm only 5'6'' and i'm having problems fitting in my car now.

i've yet to get new subframes (money going on engine swap)
so far i've figured out that for the front seats you need either a universal (non recaro cos they dont' do another subframe, i've asked them they're bloody useless) subframe that either has the same 3 point set up as the original seats, or has a separate seat slide runner.
the other option is to get under mount subframes that bolt into your car (easier to get different heights this way to help you fit) with the slide runners.

you need to measure the height of your current seat, and try not to exceed this height with your new subframe or you'll hit your head (tintop) or be too close to the roll bar for safety.

the rear seat back needs to be mounted on to a old mk1 back frame, the bench may or may not have the same  mounting as your originals.
the tt seats aren't as wide as your originals but this aint a problem, you can get foam pads from most fabric shops, they look like big blocks of blue foam usually, used for upholstery padding.

the other option is to use your old mk 1 rear seats and use the tt seat fabric to recover the old ones to match.

i'm lucky my tt seats already had the rear back attached to a mk1 back frame, i only have to get a bench to recover.  they had already been fitted to another mk1 and the bench had the correct fittings for that year (dunno which it was tho sorry, mines a 87 tho)

i think some people have used the old frame from the original seats as their subframe, but you might have height issues as your tt seats will SIT ON the frame not in it.

the one thing you'll notice tho is that the tt seats don't fall forward very far, you'll have to have slide rails of some sort unless you don't plan on having ANY rear passengers, it is impossible to get in the back with just the seats folded forward and not rolled forward too.   course, not a problem if you have a cabby and it's summer lol. bit rubbish in winter.

let us know how you get on and what frames you use, if i don't beat you to it.

i don't think i will be attempting this till springtime( or atleast better weather) as i don't have a garage. I was thinking of getting a couple of old mk1 seats from a scrappy and making my own subframes. i've had a quick look at the base of the tt seats, it looks like its only 4 bolts that hold them down. i'm sure they slide the way they are, so wouldn't need sliding subframes.
I haven't measured height just now, so not sure how they compare to original seats.

i pm'd a guy on here who sold his mk1 with tt seats in it, but it was the previous owner who had fitted them, he said that they were mounted on cobra subframes.

yup it is only 4 bolts that holds it onto the frame.

any universal frames should fit them but i would suggest measuring them before you buy them or get the measurements from the seller. you will need to make sure they clear the adjustment boss on the footwell split but try and make sure the clearance is as little as possible.

the recaro subframes are expensive, shodily designed and give faaar faaaaaar too much clearance. the top of my thighs barely clear the base of the steering wheel and i'm short.

if you want i can give you the height of the recaro ones so you can compare them to any others you look at?
if you go to www.myspace.com/owieprone and look at my pics in grubs resto you should see some of the problems you'll encounter and how f'ing ace they look anyway! :D

the other thing i've just thot of is that the rear seatbelt socket (?can't mind the right word just now) comes out of the wrong hole in the bench as the original ones are slightly too short to come up thru the hole actually in the bench not the cut out 'U'.  small problem really, they both just fit snuggly and should mean that they're not easily lost.  i had thought of getting a new longer set but figured it was probably more trouble than it was worth.

btw far in the deen are ye? i'm fae bod, i've defected south of the border tho.

if i get the subframes sorted before you, i'll let you know what i used and stick some pics on myspace, giveyou an idea of what it looks like.

that would be great lessy-jim. aberdeen is getting worse for driving in now though.

Spencer that would be cool if you could, i can,t see anyway of doing it without fabricating something up. you could email pics if that easier.
