Trying to replace engine mounts

Just wondering how hard it is to change engine mounts on my own, at home, with an engine lift thing. Would I be able to do it in one day, or should I leave it to a professional?

Ive got a 9a engine with an 02a gearbox, but the engine mounts seem worn as there seems to be a fair bit of movement in the engine when you blip the throttle, the exhaust also moves a bit under acceleration.

What mounts would I need to do in the engine bay? and does anyone know where I could get a full set?

Thanks :)

just change front and back first see how you get on, there the ones that will stop forward and back movement, both easy to change i would say an hour at the most, gsf do them get a diesel rear one as there stronger .. and you won't need your engine lift :D

Cool, ok ill try that. Thanks a lot for the quick reply.

It is the forward and back flex i have a problem with. I got a new exhaust fitted recently and the flex isnt doing much for the connection from the manifold to the system, so im playing it safe as i dont want to shell out for repairs on a brand new exhaust :S

Edit - I guess standard mk1 'big block' mounts will fit correctly?

You could fit prothane front and rear mounts, but these would transfer more vibration through the car.

I'm in the same boat at presnt, my rear mount is about as rigid as a loaf of bread, not sure if go diesel mount or prothane as yet. certainly not driving the car until it's sorted.

Projekt Frustration :

White 1991 Clipper. Lowered over polished zender rims, Single 40 dellorto on lynx manifold, kent cam, full stainless 'zorst / manifold, powerflex bushed and braced. Not the fastest car, but sounds super nice!

Still going after 12 years… never said it was a quick fix! Time is not my friend.

Sounds like a reasonable suggestion, and prob cheaper than the poly bush route. The car is harsh enough without adding to it!

oh and std side mounts too, repalce those ones last though do front and rear first they make the bigest difference.

on my mk1 i used the poly front, diesel rear and just used the best old side ones i had in my bits box, no inserts and no replacements. coped with my kr engine just fine :)
