Swapping a 1.5 carb engine but with what

Hey guys,

I would like to know what relatively straight forward engine swaps I could do to replace my 1.5 carb engine.  Would like to go fuel injection and a bit more power but also want the swap to be pretty simple in the engine swap world?!

Any suggestions,

I have read some threads etc but can't find much on people removing the 1.5 carb and replacing it with something else?

Thanks

Tom

I guess it just depends on how much power you want, this topic comes up so often,if you want fuel injection then just go out and buy a GTI,if you do a full conversion then you will find your insurance will be higher than a standard GTI anyway as you now have a modified car.
Mine was a 1.5 petrol,I now have a 1.9 tdi in it,great on fuel and goes pretty well with it :D ,I wanted something a bit differant as you don't here about this conversion very often, the insurance isn't to bad either although I am 45.

I'm 31 so hope the insurance won't be too bad.  How was the tdi conversion?

Straight forward?

Thanks for replying!!

Did take me a while to sort out the wiring on it,I bought a complete passat estate that had failed its M.O.T.,I think a good engine swap in a mk1 is to put a 16v 1.8 or 2.0litre in them, wouldn't be to difficult in yours as your starting out with a 1.5, put a pair of webbers on which would make life alot easyer, you would need a differant flywheel if you went for the 2.0 as they normally have a conventional type clutch as the passat and the mk3 golf use a differant box, don't think your clutch from the 1.5 would be up to the job,I'm sure quite a few people on here have done this coversion so there is help on here everywhere if required,I think they also look the part sat in the mk1 engine bay,1.5 about 75 hp ? 1.8 sixteen valve 136-139 ?,I think you would notice the differance :D
