Nice to see someone using Ronald Turbo's correctly! Using the rim to protect the tyres from curb damage! Well done!

Welcome to the lamest trend in the US.
There are a few cars being crunched up possibly due to stretched tires, but there are kids stating how they have driven on 145-40-18 rubber on 10.5" wide rims with no issues for 2 years

8O me neither, one good hard corner and that tyre will be off the rim besides its looks rubbish, I did quite like some stretched tyre looks but this is not right.

Pop in to your local frendly  tyre place and ask them
'What is the smallest tyre i can put on these rims'
Smallest tyre will look the most stretched. But may not look pleasing on the eye being 15" .

Ok…A constructive comment for you!
The way I see your little experiment going is that you will buy some tyres way to small for your rims as per photo, probably after a chat with a 17 year old tyre fitter who say's sweet man sweet and fat all the time! Innitially you will be happy until you get sick of people who used to think highly of you questioning your sanity and you either curb all your wheels and / or lose control of your car and either trash it or realise what you should have done in the first place and that is leave the tyres standard! They are standard for a reason!
A set of ronald turbo's must be ?250 on ebay and two sets of new tyres must cost ?250 minimum I would have thought?
So a constructuve comment for you to the tune of ?500….
Leave them alone, spend the ?500 on actually improving your car or on a holiday…..Or if you must fritter it, give it to me!

if u need the trye to protect the edge of the rim, u obviously drive like a girl, fair enough alot of you are purists but i only asked for a little advice. each to there own and all that. ill fit the tyres myself i just wanted to know who had tried it what size tyre had they used. if you dnt like the look im trying to go for and dnt have any usefull information dnt bother posting its a waste of web space. just cause one pic of a silly streched tyre has been posted it does nit mean thats what im going to do.

Ok then….Sorry for being a little over zealous in my negative opinion of your tyre desires! But…..I honestly believe there is every chance it will cost you more than you think! I don't think you will decide to stick with it and it will make the car harder to sell, also there is the safety aspect and the cost of changing it back! My response to your question was not a personal attack on you I assure you! ok?

Walt,
you might want to get your wheels rebalanced as the weight on the outside may leave a permanent mark. This is what happened to my nine spokes, and even a full refurb hasn't left that part perfect.

A few people have said the very same thing to me before! But my wheels are still running on their original tyres and the weights are the genuine vw plastic coated ones which were fitted from new! I have had the car a year and a half now and it has only been wet about 8 times while I have owned it and it is pretty much always in show condition! It's not like they are ever left with a load of brake dust on if you know what I mean! It is a worry though and it is certainly a very valid point! Cheers!
Since that photo the Karmann badges have been replaced, there was slight wear to the silvering! 8O

They are the le castellet forged alloys, standard on the Rivage and on the German version the classic line! Because they are forged, they can be polished to a mirror finish as also the Porsche Design 90's can be too! But as you can see, as standard they are pretty shiney! I think at some point I will have to change the tyres, 13 year old rubber can't be too good I suppose! It is really niggling me because I want to keep the original tyres on for as long as possible and you can no longer get P600's in that size anymore!
If you like the wheels and are thinking of maybe looking for a set, they are quite rare and hard to get hold of now, but beware that they also did a 14" version which just don't cut the mustard for me! :?
