Steering wheel spline size?

Hi

I have a 1991 gti cabriolet which has the standard plastic steering wheel which is pretty worn and shiny.  I want to replace it for a leather one of the same style that VW put into Corrados.

I've found one second hand with a spline diameter of 3.5cm (part number 321 419 660).

Does anyone know if 3.5cm is the larger or smaller spline?

Putting my neck out here but the mk1 cabbie of your year has the larger spline and the corrado wheel should fit….

my 93 cab was a large spline but it was a collar over the smaller spline. i had to remove the larger collar to get an older wheel to fit which was a bit of a bugger but the corrado wheel will fit in anycase.

Dean, was removing the larger spline easy? Something on my to do list.

It's definitely the larger spline and yes a corrado wheel will fit. I would have though the removal of the collar would be very difficult and you could risk damaging the spline it comes off.

I had to remove the large spline to run my momo wheel that I have, your best to nip to ya local dealer to get it done. I slipped the guy a fiver and the job was over in twenty seconds!!

Sod buggering around with it as I've heard some serious horror stories!
