started polo gt engine for first time

ive just started my 3f engine for the first time

theres some smoke coming from around exhaust manifold

it doesnt smell like exhaust fumes is this normal for a first start or should i be worried?

Did you replace the manifold gasket? It must be leaking from somewhere, so either a blowing manifold or its not bolted up tight enough. Either that or its heat wrapped, as the heat wrap produces a lot of smoke the first time the manifold gets hot.

ill try and tighten it up tommorow and see how it is, was just worried because it didnt smell like exhaust fumes

You might have just spilt some oil on the manifold when filling it up, its easy to do! Or something has stuck to it and started melting or burning?! As long as it sounds like its running OK then I wouldn't worry too much about it If it carries on then look into it further.

As said above, something might have stuck to the manifold. Several wires melted and stuck to mine so i would advise you check nothing is too close lol

I like to see the small block conversions going on,1.3 GT in a MK1 makes a lovely little motor,don't forget to fit the 5 speeder

i would have liked to fit a 5 speed box but settled for the original 4 speed for now.
