Solid tappets for the dx engine

Got a Kent gs3 and when it gets fitted shall i replace the tappets? if so can someone give me some info :D

I don't think that you'd need to replace the tappet buckets themselves, but with a different cam, you will need to measure up each of the shims that fit into the buckets - the Haynes for big-block cars has a good description of what to do here (although I doubt that the VW dealer has a wide selection of the shims any longer  :wink:  )

Either way, you need to ensure that there is a gap (no gap means that the vavle doesn't fully close, and will quickly get burnt to death), and that it isn't too big (a really big gap causes cam-lobe damage eventually as the leading side of the lobe hammers against the shim)

As its a Kent cam, do you think i could get shims for the cam i bought from them?

They might be able to supply them but, seeing as they won't be different from the VW ones, they'd only be doing it because they're hard to get from VW, not because they're special ones - ask them and see…
