Solenoid Kit....

Hi,

I have just seen that you can get a solenoid kit for a mk1 golf for fairly cheap.  I do not want to smooth out all of my doors and door handles because that will cost too much.
So can I still have a solenoid kit and keep the door handles?
Are they still secure? (do they make it easier to break into)
How hard are they to fit? (do I need any special tools or anything)
And finally are they worth it because they seem like a pretty cool thing which will make the car feel a lot more modified and modern!

Cheers
Jack

maplin sell a kit.
it is easy to fit but takes a bit of time as you have to take the door cards off and bend the pushrods to fit. then get the wiring in etc.
no special tools are required although you may need to drill a few holes inside the door to screw it into place.

you can leave your locks on (infact i'd advise it) the push rod attaches to the locking pin lifting arm.

good luck.

Yeah im thinking of fitting a kit myself, solenoids looked a bit flimsy though which put me off.Guess you could salvage it all off a newer golf, scrappies prob wouldnt charge much.Let us know how easy it is to fit and how well it works!

I think there's a bit of confusion here, the OP was asking about solenoids (to open the doors) and the replies suggest central locking (to lock/unlock only).
