smooth engine bays..

This is something i may or may not do with my mark1, however my question is… where do they hide all the cables, brake servo etc? bearing in mind if i do this i will be converting to the 9a i have lying around and want it to look as clean as this…

you need a hydraulic pedal box to hide the brake line.
wiring is hiden in the chassis rails and theheadlight wiring in the inner wing and up through the crossmember.

I have just done mine and it's a lot of work although if your running carbs like above there are only 5 or 6 wires to run to the engine.

where the hell do those HT leads go to? there is no dizzy, wipers or heater very clean but very impractical for everyday use. show cars only me thinks

the ht leads go to a coil pack on the back of the engine as its running mappable spark, and not a dizzy.

i dont think i'd go to that extreme when it comes to smoothing, i'll probably just relocate my coil pack and get longer leads, move the battery and washer bottle into the back, and just get a chrome cover for the brake cylinder to make it look smart, unsure what to do about the heater matrix though cus dont really want to get rid of the heaters unless i find some nice heated front seats

Post

problem you have then heater wise is the motor sucks all the fumes in from the bay.
You can take the motor off smooth the scuttle and keep the matrix though so will still have warm air going onto the screen.
I'm going to run a heated front screen on mine at some point.
I don't really plan on using it when it's wet and cold though so doesn't really matter to me.

It's not an easy look to achieve, there is a lot of metalwork been done to that bay.

I have been cleaning up my engine bay a bit, fitted a top fill radiator and re located the coil. At present the wiring looms are going back to the original position as I have had enough of extending wiring for the time being.

I think the above look is only for show cars as there is no heater, an important item if you live in this country. Its a fantastic look but a massive amount of work.

I think the photo is of TUK custom's car, these guys are at the top of the tree at present, the (unfinished) 'rocco on display at E38 was as impressive, the paint must have cost a fortune and if far better than my car's bodywork!

i want a plain bay but also want heaters, if i remove my blower so i can safely cut out scuttle could i use electric ones????

just been looking at 12volt heaters on ebay, would 2 of these under the dash be sufficient if plumbed into the original pipes?? so that heat can be directed into cabin or at screen?? this would also do away with water pipes going into bulkhead.

After reading the stuff on ebay I don't really think these fans are up to the job of replacing the factory heating/vent set up.

I think it's one or the other, heat or a totally smooth bay. My car will always retain the factory heating and for that matter the rain tray and associated bits as I want the car to retain some of it's originality and practicality.

It's all a matter of taste, budget and skill with smoothing the bay. I may well now be re routing some of the wires this year as I have finally got the arch liners out of my car so I can get to the inner wings now!

chris h - you are talking sense i am gonna hkeep my rain tray and heater as i want my car to be at least a bit original and definately practical.

a car is not cool if you can only use it on sunny days (in my opinion)

i am doing this car to enjoy using not, pushing it off a trailer at shows is not my bag, but i am always impressed by the cars at shows!!!
