Side Exit Exhaust.....
I was jusr after a bit of advise and what you think really, i am thinking of fitting a stainless exhaust to my mk1 golf and it got me thinking of different designs, oval ones, round ones, square ones, you the sort…. then i thought of maybe a side exit exhaust, i havent seen it on a mk1 before but that could mean two things, it a new and original idea or it looks rubbish…..
the tial pipe i was thinking of is a 3''x6'' rounded rectangle??? if you know what i mean….
if anybody has any pics or info on this please let me know, i dont want to make my car look rubbish just different….
Cheers…..

Why would you want to do it?
You would get no benefits from it, plus it would sit awfullly low and probably give you clearance issues over speed bumps etc.

Why Not….?
I just think it would look different, didnt think about clearance for speed bumps thou, its already lowered 40mm so i could be an issue.
The performance side of things im not too fussed, its only a 1.3 driver and doesnt go very fast as it is.
Thanks for the replies, if i go ahead with it i will post some pics so you can let me know if it looks good or bad.
Cheers.

Wow, that's huge! Perhaps you can explain wh tou want to fit such a huge can to your Mk1? It's up to you but with regard to proportion and size it's a delicate car and I'm not convinced it could carry it off.
If I get a chance I might do a bit of Photoshop this afternoon and post it up for you!

To be honest, i have a powerflow back box in my garage that i took off a mk3 orion, i think the tail pipe would looks good coming out of the side, the rest of the box wouldnt fit under the car so i would be taking that bit off and i think with the back box taken out it might sound a little sweeter…
A nice little 2'' round pipe sounds good but i dont have one of them in my garage…

can you remove the crease that joins the sill to the underside of the body?

Thats where the sill spot welds to the floorpan. You could grind it off so the exhaust sits about 10mm higher but i wouldnt advise it. Wouldnt take long for the rust to get in.

I think it looks great, very different, havent seen anything like that before on a mk1…
dont think it would burn the skirt cos i dont have one,
probably would burn your leg as you get in, might have to put it on the passenger side……wont burn me then….
if i grind the lip of the sill then re weld it all up that would seal it again, yes??
I think im guna give it a go, looks like fun…..
Cheers guys…

Yeah but if you can, use a MIG or TIG welder when you do it and remember to cover up the metal afterwards as soon as you can.
