Sandblasting Wheels, advice?

At some point when money permits im gonna get some tasty alloys but there are many things above them on the list of parts so…….
repainting the steels, i have a compresser and pretty pethetic sandblaster but it works just takes a little while, would it be fine to sandblast the wheels with the tyres still on if i masked all the edges around the tyre i'm guessing the sand would do nothing but bounce off the rubber? i have no way of taking the tyres of and they're in good nick………..any advice very welcome

I doubt you'll have any problems but if it were me I'd just make a circular template and lay it on the tyre while blasting the wheel. If you want the tyres of any local garage should do it for beer money
