You heard of megasquirt? Well this is an ignition only controller.
Very simple and VERY effective. Need to get a few bits 'n pieces to get it all to work, but all readily available and quite easy to fit.
I will go down this route if I eventually find a cheap enough 16v engine to bolt my carbs to!

Other than that, It looks pretty straight forward and for what it costs, you get a lot of flexibility!
You only really need the laptop if you want to program the ignition curve in the car. I see no reason why you couldn't connect it to a desktop PC. If the board needs power during the hook up, then just take a 12v battery to your computer!
As for the maps, there are loads of people running similar set ups - if not a vw 16v on carbs, then a Vauxhaul. As long as you get a basic map, you should be laughing. If you then get the car rolling road tuned with someone who knows what they are doing, they should be able to adjust the map for you… :dontknow:
Most people say "trial and error" is the best way… just don't adjust too far from basic!
My carbs are CBR 1000 Mikunis I think…
Debating whether to take them apart completely to try and re-bank them so that they are spaced evenly. They are currently in two banks of two, which makes inlet manifold fabrication slightly trickier and with un-even port lengths…
There are some custom parts between them though which I don't know if I could re-make at different lengths etc…
Got to find a 16v lump first anyway. The one I was given is no good.
