Rear Drum upgrade..

Can I use MK3 rear drums and fittings?

What other non Disk upgrades are there to standard MK1 rear brakes.

I went on a trackday recently and I was outbraking everything! As a comparison, I could see cars ahead braking at around 250 feet before the turn in point, I was leaving it to the 100 feet marker. That's with the standard stuff, just a bigger master cylinder and servo. PS I was on slicks too, probably made a difference.

i took a set of newish drums off a mk1 i cut up recently, they are made of a metal that doesnt corrode, and the drums are drilled to allow for cooling and for letting the dust out??
Agree mk1 brakes are fine, just upgrade the servo and master,my citigolf has a massive servo compared to the old mk1 standard fit one.

You can swap to 200mm drums (from a Caddy and later Golfs I think) if you change backplates, shoes, etc. Not sure its worth it unless you are putting a significant amount more weight over the rear axle.

I have upgraded to bigger drums from a 90's passat. not sure how big they actually are but are considerably bigger!
Just swapped the whole caboodle, backplates, stub axles, drums and internals. Existing brake lines fit. Lock the wheels up VERY easily in the wet and also in the dry if you press the pedal hard enough. Needs some bias adjusters really…

They are really not necessary, but my drums were knackered and I got a bargain on the full passat set-up.

Yup my citi came with a 9" servo too as found on 16v golfs over here.
