Rear Discs......
Im in the process of putting the big disc convertion on the fronts, the one with the vauxhall calipers and uprated m/c +servo… which got me thinking of the rears…
Where do you take the rear axle with disc brakes form??
Can you use a mk2 gti??

IMO the Mk1 sheel is far too light for rear disks and unless you are racing the car (and brake fade might be a problem) I would not do it. Even if you do you'll need to heavily bias the front.
Otherwise you be locking up the rears and spinning before you know it!

They are 256mm.
I had a look at the FAQ on brakes, they dont really recomend doing the rear brake convertion, just bleeding new brake fliud through and adjusting them correctly…
Think i will stick with the rear drums, sounds easier too….
Cheers…

more than likely your current set up is a good few years old - it will make a big difference.

it will be easier, and by the sounds of it a better set up all round, need to get the discs up front on first.
I was reading through the FAQ for braking regards to the fronts, and someone said by fitting the m/c and servo from a passat/carrado you lose the brake light switch??
How do you over come this problem as i dont fancy driving around with no brake lights….
Cheers…

aahh, so its a pressure switch?
not a problem….

The t-piece is just a splitter, not a pressure switch itself, you need the t-pieces to plumb in the pressure switchs (or split the lines for the corners).
The mk1 m/cyls have 6 outlets, one for each corner and two pressure switchs (well mine did, lol). The 16V m/cyls come as either 3 or 4 port (The passat one I had had 3, the golf GS&F one I bought had 4)
Or as Carbs4ever said, pull the pressure switch wires back into the car and plug in a pedal switch.
