Rear Disc Brakes

Ive just about finished upgrading my rear brakes and Ive fitted a reconditioned back axle with all new bushes and brakets and thought it would be a good idea to upgrade my drum brakes to mk2 rear discs, who else has done this conversion and have you noticed any inprovement  :dontknow: , i have also fitted 280mm brakes up front so wondered if this was a worthwile job or weather it just makes them look a bit better

not worth it mate, only for the looks. dnt use mk2 use mk3 calipers as the mk2 ones seize up easy,

also dont forget to fit a load sensing valve a mate has fittd them without load sensing valves gone round a corner braked and the backs locked up and sent them spinning into the kerb,  lets just say no more nice ?700 rims!!

I've got these on my Campaign.  I've got the list of required parts somewhere.

I've got complete Mk2 16v brake setup including master cylinder and it's abolsutely excellent compared to standard!

You need to use Scirocco 16v handbrake cables I think?

Ive just finished it today but I dont have a brake compensator but I have a Bias valve so I guess if I have it set to the front I should be fine  :dontknow:
I bought mk4 callipers but when I came to connecting the hoses I found they too small and was struggling to get some adaptors hence I got the mk2 ones
I really only fitted them as I was changing the back axle but they do look alot better

scirocco 16v handbrake cables, and you may have to extend the brake pipes

they do look good though

have you got an adjustable bias valve? if so how have you plumbed it in? because all the bias valves i have seen have only got one inlet and one outlet and a mk1 has got 2 brake pipes going to the rear of the car. i dont want to buy 2 bias valves!!!!

When I originally overhauled the brakes I removed all the old stuff and ran braided hose from the master cylinder to the bias valve and then one piece of hose out of it to the back where I used a Tpiece off to each side or the rear brakes thus eliminating a full run from the front.
In my mind its been one of the best mods Ive done yet and it wasnt that expensive i think it cost me about ?100 for the parts and took about a day to fit.

depends on what other mods you've got though. I'm sure they weren't fitted as standard to 16v sciroccos purely for the looks
