I wouldnt bother - Far to much hassle for very little gain. Set your drums up properly and they are more than adequate.

i kinda disagree with crazy. i did the conversion and although not spankers the brakes were far better than what they were with drums, but then i spose to comes down to preference. conversion gets my thumbs up, tho i would recommend you use a helper. its not an easy job!

Dizzy,
I would expect that a lot of your improvement was down to the fact you had some new fluid in there replacing the old "worn out" fluid. And removed the old brakes that were probably worn and out of adjustment.
The fact is Mk1's are just too light at the back (especially under braking) to need disks.
If you need to improve your brakes spend the money on the front setup imo.
Cheers

the breaks ive got for the conversion are of a mk2 gti 1.8
i know the hnd break cable should go through the rear axle bone and i need to bend the break line down so it can conect to the blead valve
but the only thing thats my problem is geting the breaks bled …cause it will be undrivable to get to a garage to do it
