Rear Brakes locked up.

hi

the rear near side brake is looked on i can not get the drum off. i have bleed the system. what can i do?

sounds like all your shoes have fell apart or the linings has come of the shoe,
try un adjusting them through the hole at the rear of the drum se hanes manual

Could be 2 things:

Firstly, before you even start, have you backed off the handbrake?
1st thing - manually push back the adjustment wedge.
2nd thing - if that doesn't do it, sounds like the shoe has come apart within the drum. You'll need to somehow hammer off the drum.

Don't be shy with the hammer, especially if the car hasn't moved in a while, as it should loosen any rust or corrosion sticking the shoe to the drum.

if push comes to shove you can hammer the drum off, it will damage the retaining pins, and possibly the slots in the cylinder may break off, but a new cylinder is very cheap, and new pins and retainers should be with the new shoes.

both my rear drums where like this when i got the car towed it home with them occasionally locking up off free will and hand brake doing nothing as people say hammer it it will come off i replaced every thing apart from drums and back plate cylinders pins springs and shoes its all readilly availiable from lots off places and as stated b4 not that expensive

Should have specified that you should tap the drum on the edges of it with the hammer, not from behind (i.e. from inside the wheel arch) to force it over the shoes.

Only force it as a last resort…
