Any thing is possible and I have seen this done to a cabby, it required a lot of cutting and welding fabrication for the Engine mounts.
I will try and dig it out and link you to it. It has photo's showing what he did. I remeber cutting and welding mounts onto the chassis legs.

And no doubt, the wheelbase is longer too. So, custom driveshafts and propshaft are going to be needed, for sure.
I think its one of those things - if you have to ask, you can't afford it or don't know enough to even start doing it.
Its like any other engine conversion - you remove the old engine, put the new one in place and look at what will need adapting, changing, fabricating or buying. Except that the list of items on an R32 conversion is about 4-5 times long as the list for a 16V conversion, and none of the items are available off the shelf so you need to either make it yourself or find a specialist who can.

I am lucky enough to own both and I have got to say that that engine in a MK1 would be MENTAL. it has to be coupled to a non res milltek. if its ok with the mods I would like to suggest a look on the www.r32oc.com as they like here are a great group of people and very very knowledgable. there are also a few being stripped on there mate.

It would be mental. The one in the link looks superb.
Would be a great project thread too.
Now if I can just find that pot of gold!!

The r32 engine weighs about 212 million tonne! Great in a bigger mk4 or 5 but the best thing about the mk1 is the way it drives, which is helped greatly by its lack of weight. Much rather put the lighter 2.0 tsi in from a golf r or s3. Along with all the other bits. If your going to start on a project that big in the 1st place… But its your time and money.

thats an awesome build, i think i shall have to have a read later
its definitly not impossible, but its going to be hard. someone did something like this in a classic mini! he had to make the car bigger to get it all in

Having just spent the past 2 hours reading that link, I'm left thinking why the hell not just get a good R32 and have some panels custom made to make a big MK1 replica because that's pretty much what they've ended up with.

It does seem like alot of work, why not just have a twin turbo r32?
But you cant fault his fabrication skills!
