quick gearbox question (ABF conversion)

I am putting an ABF in my car, and have got hold of a mk2 16v gearbox. Am I right in thinking that I just need a mk2 16v clutch kit and all will be fine?

Depends what your existing car is……year, engine size.

After 1988 will have the right mounts and driveshaft size

1986-1988 MIGHT HAVE right driveshafts, might not

pre 1986…..best to check driveshafts, most unlikely they're the right ones

small block (1.1/1.3) won't have the right mounts or shift linkage so thats more stuff needed to purchase, or needs adapting etc

16V gearbox will be 100mm outer lip on driveshafts, most Mk1s are 90mm before 1988 etc etc see guide on left and search etc etc

I have an 020 2y gearbox, which I was told has the correct size driveshaft seals added to it to suit the mk1.
I am converting a gti model so all mounts should be ok?

unless the flanges have been swapped for 90mm then it wont work with your shafts if its a pre-88 mk1 you're converting

but to answer the question yes you need a mk2 16v clutch kit. if your mk1 was a 1.6 you'll also need a 210mm flywheel from a mk1/2 1.8. if yours is a 1.8 then it'll have a 210mm flywheel already

Yeah it has the 90mm flanges, think the guy I bought it off had it on a scirocco.
Thats good news if I only need the clutch kit as it was a 1.8.
