Problems with 1.8T conversion
Hey Guys,
I'm having a few issues getting the this conversion sorted, I've dropped the engine in and have noticed a distinct lack of space between the throttle body and the front of the car where the radiator and intercooler need to be placed.
Unlike most conversions i've seen done the throttle body is on the drivers side of the engine but on mine it's in the middle right where the radiator needs to be.
Now i've seen cars where this has still been done but was wondering if it would be easier to change the inlet manifold to one from a different engine with the throttle body then on the drivers side or get a super slime rad and fan from somewhere?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
Drew

Hiya mate
i have this same problem i beleave it is because the donor engine your using is from a a4 or similar mounted car. (engine sits from front to back)
My solution will be to get a inlet from a a3/ibiza/leon where the engine is mounted the other way (left to right) as i reckon it'll be cheaper easier to source without comprimising the cooling capacity!

yep as above you need to bin the longditudle t/b and get a gold or a3 one also make sure the turbo manifold isnt pointing to one end but straight down

Make sure you get the right manifolds, if you have the A4/Passat engine its probably an AEB so will be a large port head so you will need an AGU manifold to match the port sizes

Hey fella's
Thanks for the replys, the engine is an APY from an S3. I think I will measure and see what the gap is between the throttle body and the front of the bay as I've seen this engine conversion done as is without changing the manifold. If I was to change the manifold will it have to be a specific one for the engine?
Thanks

Right just checked on the qpeng website and it is a transverse engine with small ports and it is DBW whatever that means, if I get another one then it will also have to be a small port? And is DBW relevant at all?

I would do but the car at the moment is in Cornwall, I'm in the middle of trying to source someone to trailer it up for me.

Did you manage to get the radiator in that gap as well then?
