painting and fitting of bumpers
I bought bumpers for my 1989 mk1 citigolf, but now I need to know how do i fit them and how do I spray them?
I cant take it to a bodyshop, as they charge too much, plus the effect of saying: i did it myself" is better.
What do i need to fit it (the bumpers didnt come with any mountings…)
And what do i need to spray it, and how do i spray it?
Many thanks in advance.

This would lead me to suggest you take it to a body shop…
Offer to pay cash - Should be a nice easy job for them. Expect to be told around ?50 to ?100.
If you did it yourself, by the time you had bought the right paper to rub down, primer, decent aerosols etc, you will be looking at at least ?30 anyway (Not to mention the time you would have to put in), plus your finish will be crap compared to a body shop.

Are the bumpers a grained or a smooth finish? (I'm unfamiliar with the details of SA cars). If they're smooth, then I'd tend to favour the bodyshop because they will be able to achieve a better finish 'out of the gun', using 2 pack. If you do it at home and use rattle cans, even if you get it done nicely you'd have to cut and polish it to match the original finish of the car.
I had a VW motorhome with grained bumpers a while back, I achieved acceptable results with plastic primer and spray paint, on the bumpers.
