New Engine

i want to put a new engine in my 1.8gti cabby. anyone know a place that does it and roughly how much it would cost? or which engine would be best suited?

Where are you? How much do you want to spend? What engine characteristics do you want? Need a bit more detail to answer your question.

i am in the south around the london/south east area. i have got a couple of grand to spend and was thinking just a newer 1.8 16v engine would do the trick. just to make the car more reliable, and a little faster......

If you are going for a 16v then you might as well put a 2.0 16v in. Cost the same to fit, a little bit more to source than a 1.8. You will probably want the 9a / 6a rather than the abf for ease of install.

Don't know of anyone in that area. Have a search in the recommended garages section perhaps.
