What exactly do you mean? Car already has negative camber. You adjust this at bottom of the front struts with an offset washer - explained in Haynes manual.

Is this what you mean?

Thanks, thats what i needed to know.

Is it in the standard Haynes manual for both the smaller block and big block models?

I think adjustment will be the same for all models, the camber angle will be different though and should be in Haynes also

to get this done properly you should get the car on a 4 wheel alignment machine where you can get it done properly and not hit and miss

Or buy a caber guage from frost (as recommended to me by Mr CrazyQuiff), set that up and then go to a old school tracking place.

Lazer alignment..great but I think its kinda of overkill for a mk1.

plus of course mines too low and they cant normally get lazer gear on it

Um dunno if this is any help but i went to get my tracking set up and that was done on lazer thingies. i know it sounds crazy but they are no more accurate than the old school ones garages used to use.

Setting up negative camber is simple. look at how far the cammed bolt on the front strut is turned round and match it to the other side. if something is bent then it will not match when you do this and it will need to be set up properly but if everything is in good cond then this should be fine!

How should camber change when you lower the car. My suspension is -40mm and tyres scrub on inside quite a bit. Should camber angle be changed from standard?

I always thought standard is about 1? positive?

As for negative camber, be warned it will understeer, just at higher speeds and when you lift off it will bite you on the arse

who said laser alignment ? i didn't

yeah it won't do anygood if the chassis is bent !

as far as running loads of negative camber….. why do it too much you want to wear tyres out quicker ? more doesn't mean it's better !

totally depends how you drive, where you drive etc to be fair!

I drive a lot of country lanes and loved it when i had silly maxed out negative, but was nasty to drive on motorways  .

I reckon neg about 1/2 to 1 deg would be spot on.

Get a spirit level and hold it against the bottom of the wheel rim verticaly and measure the distance between the top of the rim and the level, get both sides to match and jobs a good-un. Make sure the car is sat level first tho

ERROR: A link was posted here (url) but it appears to be a broken link.

Will need to check tracking after doing anything like this though…

You could do it all by eye like I did!

Cheers, will keep it all in mind! Think i might invest in a camber gauge (Cheers Manic GTI). Still sat with a rolling shell at the moment and a dining room full of removals and replacements so the camber is a long way off but its good to know

Cheers again
