need help

i have a 1.3 mk1 driver
engine is spitting oil from carb ,spraying from drivers side back of engine and hard starting /staying started so thinking of swapping engine.
i have a budget of about ?700 to get it running again wot would be the easiest engine to put in and would it require any moving things about in bay? would prefer a bigger litre ,
can anyone advice?

?700 isn't enough to fit a big block, because you'd need to (well, ought to) change so much else too. Basically, brakes, suspension, rewelding engine mount in a different position. There's no point putting a 1.5, 1.6 or 1.8 engine in (you could just buy a car with this engine size, after all) and a conversion to give more power than 1.8 GTI would cost more than ?700 all in.

So, just find a replacement 1.3 engine and fit it.

I don't know, I imagine MK2 Polo or Mk2 Golf have similar engines too but you're better asking the small block carb experts.

get an mot failed polo gt or g40 i picked a mk3 polo gt up for ?350 got it mot'ed and crashed it.
the transplant is so strait forward the wireing put me off abit but is easy once you have it all laid out you only realy need the ecu and fuel pump wires and you wont have to cut and move the drivers side engine mount.

gaz

keep on dubbing
