Need a New Engine

Hi All,

I was gutted to find out my engine is on its last legs yesterday and my car will not pass an MOT without a full engine re-build or a new one altogether, I think I am going to take the latter option however I would first appreciate some guidance from the people in the know if you could:

1. Where can I get a new Golf MK1 GTi Engine?

2. What engines fit the MK1 should I not be able to get one? i.e.16v one would be good

3. Are they difficult to fit or should I get someone professional to help?

I hope you can help, I am at work all day today however I will be back around 6.30 to answer any posts, many thanks in advance

whats up with the engine to say it wont pass an m.o.t?

1)few GTI engines on here at the minuite in the classifieds.

2)That depends on your capabilities really so ask could you swap the engine over?

if you label everything up before hand then unplug wires, leads and cables you shouldnt go far wrong if you keep your bolts together.

3)16v is relatively straight forward swap either kr(mk2 gti) 9a (raddo) or abf (mk3 gti), abf being the most difficult with more wiring but can achieve more from it i think and are bulletproof. all of the above use your existing mounts and utilise your gearbox as it has 100mm driveshafts if its the cab in your avatar.

all depends what you want and how good with spanners (and hammers) you are.

Thanks for the advice, I have been told that its burning oil, quite badly and need a re-build, but I am now thinking of going the whole 9 yards so to speak and do a full restoration, I am not bad with the spanners however I may be biting off more than I can chew
