if you want to do the swap quick if i were you i would get an 020 box from a diesel mk1/2/3 to start with, then swap it in to save yourself a lot of hassle. then do the hydro swap later. although since you'll be modifying the pedal box for dbw you may as well do the hydro clutch at the same time… in that case what i would do is get another column and pedal box, and get all that modified before you do anythign to your car. this is going to be the trickiest part, although you can by pre-modified hydro pedal boxes from crazyquiffs iirc.

wiring wise you'll need the complete engine loom, then splice the mk1 fusebox plugs on it after tweaking the routing. its best to start with another mk1 engine loom, keep the mk1 specific stuff and add in the mk3 stuff. you can do this before you start stripping your car down as well.

fuel system wise i think you can just keep the carby tank and sender unit, though you'll need to clean it all out really well and find somewhere to put the diesel filter, i think the mk3 one will fit quite easily though as its a small inline unit afaik. have a look underneath anyway you'll soon spot it

hi jon, cheers for the reply,i know its not the easyiest of converstions but i have a complete vento tdi car to play with, and my cabby is a good solid car to start. i have been chating to a guy in work today who was quite helpful, he said it did a simular converstion in a caddy pick up, he fitted the whole loom and engine and box etc, he said the gear linkage fouled the break servo, so this needs a bit more insight, he also said what you were saying about the colum and peddle box, he said he put a mk3 colum and peddle box in compltete, which as he remembers wasnt to bad of a job, but he also said he fitted a mk3 dash too???,   he said that the oil filter also was very close to the chassie,
well i feel i need to do a bit more reserch before i start as it will need to be done over a weekend and maybe a couple of evenings etc as the cabby is my daily drive and im stuck with out it

thanks again for the input fella, and any more info all helps guys

i will do a nice detailed tread when i do the converstion for any future people looking, the aaz must be getting short supples soon :)

gear linkage will be same job as per any mk1 with a cable shifter box so you shouldnt have any problems figuring that one out, overall its the pedal box thats the hard part here.

wiring loom is pretty simple once you break it down i have all the diagrams you need in my sig. look at jetta89 for your fusebox, its mk2 golf but your car will be similar, plus look at the fusebox sticky.

you could fit the whoel car loom if you want but it would be a lot of work since the fusebox is on the opposite side of the car, unless you drill a hole on driver side and mount fusebox there.

not sure on the mk3 pedal box to mk1, the guy might have foudn it easier by fitting the complete dash as its all kinda integrated together. depends what you want really. i prefer the mk1 dash personally, trouble is findign a mk1 diesel rev counter dash i imagine thats going to be tricky!
