Mk4 polo dash into a mk1 golf

I've seen one car with it on edition 38

Who else has done it or something similar? I really like this and because of the electrical problems and dash faults that come with the mk1, I would really consider this option and replace the whole lot!

can someone tell me if a mk4 dash like the one posted would fit in a cabrio as i believe that they have additional braces under the dash for strength, and does anyone know who could fit it as i live in the guildford area and costs ..? :D

are the Porsche seats a straight fit or do you have to weld the subframe?

The seats arent a direct fit, they require to sit on a flat surface, unlike the Mk1 seats that or on a kindve tripod thing so im gonna have to make up a false floor thing in the front.Got a question about the poo dash, just took the golf one out and im gonna start to fit it.Thing is though will i need the loom for the dash for the Mk4 polo? Also im doing a G60 conversion(just to keep things easy haha) so im not sure how this will join up with the G60 Ecu,loom.Any help would be ace.

hi carniemk1

just seen this,..i own the golf in the pic

you will need the loom out of the mk4 polo to mate to your existing mk1 loom..

you will prob have problems with the indicator flasher aswell because the mk4 polo clocks has a left/right and the mk1 has one light on the clocks

i also have a G60 engine conversion and didnt have to worry about the loom as its a different one to the dash loom..

you may have to run a wire from the temp sender thou

you will also need a electronic speedo pick up (i used a early mk3 one) as the mk1 is run by a cable driven one

forgot to say…

it will help if you have a wiring diagram of the mk4 polo and the mk1 before you start

Does anybody know where I can find a wiring diagram for this? I ahve actaully used a seat tdi dash, but its exactly the same, so my major concern is working out what does what on the clocks again should be the same as the polo, do i need a haynes because the wiring diagram for my golf is a bag of bollox lol.

Help!!!!! :banghead:

Well incase anyone is interested,as i was saying before im fitting tombstones into my mk1,well thats it almost done. Was told i could use recaro sub frames and theyd just bolt on, but these proved pretty hard to find.Instead the quickest, cheapest way was to butcher my mk1 seats and get their subframes, basically take the bottom part of the seat, rip out the foam and then cut out the seat pan, from there all you do take off the tombstone runners and weld the mk1 subframes straight to the tombstone frames.Dunno why i didnt think of it earlier haha.
