MK3 pulleys & alternator

I'm thinking of getting rid of the v-belt on a MK2 1.6 GTD engine, in favour of a later mk3 style ribbed belt. I'm not too sure if this possbile (hence me asking) but i imagine i would need the followings parts:

- pulley that bolts onto the crankshaft
- water pump pulley
- alternator bracket
- alternator

Is this right? or do i need anything else - or actually, is this possible at all?

Cheers for any help :)

Lee.

To transmit the same torque, a multi V has to be much tighter and has more losses as a result. Their main selling point is the ability to bend backwards to go around more ancilliaries. For a single drive system, the normal V belt is better.

Clutch pulley?

I thought there was a tensioner in the flat belt set up?

ah,the clutch pulley is the one on the alternator bert,it stops the belt bounce and allows for the alternator to free wheel when the engine suddenly slows down,as the alternator is such a heavy rotating mass,it slows down slower than the engine speed,so it stops the belt chirping

aaaahhhh i see, cool! does the clutch pulley come as part of the alternator, or is it a separate part that you can purchase from VW to bolt onto an alternator?

the pulley is fitted on many cars, but it has to have the same amount of ridges as the crank pulley so the belt will fit,im shure its a 6 rib belt on the vw diesel, the renault clio dci is only a 5 rib, mercedes sprinter use the 6 rib belt im pretty shure and they have a clutch pulley,my alternator off the tt was free, and the head that came off it,the alternator was smashed but the pulley mint, from a 700 mile car
