MK2 VR6 CONVERSION TRANSPLANT INTO A MK1 GTI CAB ? IS IT POS

I have a sweet mk2 golf gti with a vr6 2.8 engine conversion that was fitted 5 years ago from a team in scottland and my last m.o.t just didnt happen and was told she needs alot of welding and other work so was advised it may be time to let her go    ……  so lucky me found a mk1 golf gti cab 1990 in clean condition that just needs a new roof skin for a sweet price and now im looking ant stripping my mk2 down and transplanting the conversion to the mk1 cab but !!!

1 - can it be done and
2 - how much different are the two chassis

everything looks pretty stock with all my engine mounts ect like a factory job so i dont think the mounts have been fabricated but im not too sure !

The chassis are quite different, the mk2 has a subframe the mk1 dosnt, but its been done more than once so its very possible.

gees that means i will have to make new mounts and possible have to change the whole suspension set up as i have everything to make another mk2 but do the mk2 and mk1 share any suspension parts or are they interchangable ?

both the mk1 cab and the mk2 seem so similar to look at front end wise and are both roughly the same age

The suspension is quite different, not generally interchangeable between mk1 and mk2 although nearly anything is obviously possible. You need to make all new chassis/engine mounts or mod mk1 chassis to accept mk2 subframe, others on here can no doubt offer more advise.

the vw caddy forum does the mounting kit.

why would you put a vr6 in a mk1 though?

this is slowly turning into a dificult task as i was hoping to swap most bits but expecting a few mods to be needed but i have just read there is a kit out there for around £700 that supplies most modifications and mounts to get the car rolling.
this has left me wondering what to do for the best  :dontknow:
i may just get the mk1 looking good and working fine and keep it orriginal as they are good looking cars  but i so do have the v6 bug.

350 but it also requires cutting and welding in parts to fit.mount the engine

Just saw the kit on ebay, less than £400 posted, this conversion now seems a bit simpler.
