MK2 Suspension on a MK1
Hi,
Does anyone know if MK2 coilovers will fit on my mk1 GTI? Someone selling the suspension told me that the back ones are identical and the front ones just need new top mounts available from Euro car parts and your away!
Anyone done this? :dontknow:
Thanks, Greg.

No. I can't describe why, but there's plenty of explanations on clubgti.

No they wont, pretty sure the fronts are also different where they attach to the wheel bearing housings

The rear upper spring mounting is the same Found out when bros MK1 driver had rusted away and we needed a replacement. Local VW dealer had one in, fits both.
The rest is the same as in its macpherson struts with shockers in springs but different enough not to fit. The fact he's trying to sell it means that he would want it to be the same :dontknow: ???

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

Cheers guys, thats enough info for me to steer clear of them. I'll just have to save up a bit more and get the really expensive coilovers for the MK1.
Wish there were more second hand sets about… Gold dust I guess!
